Rice Wine Scorpions, Vietnamese Folk Medicine

by Bob Kerstetter

In folk medicine from Vietnam* you marinate your rice wine—that is correct, marinate the wine—by dropping in a dozen of so scorpions you hunt and trap in the mountains. When all is done you drink the wine, but don’t eat the scorpions. *So no one becomes confused, this is not mainstream medicine in Vietnam. While as far as we can tell it is not even mainstream folk medicine, it certainly is interesting.
