Mabo Tofu! — a hot spicy meal made with ground meat, onions, bean curd, red peppers, garlic, ginger, sake, and soup stock, plus tofu — all served on rice.
Beginning life in China as mapo tofu, it changes its name slightly as it adapts itself to Japanese taste buds.
We start with this recipe:
We cut back on the hot spiciness and slice the tofu into smaller sizes. We also add cooked shrimp.
We learned about this Mabo Tofu after leaving Japan. Hopefully we can try it there soon.
